Application Process
2012-2013 YSDN Application Process
Stage One
All applicants (Domestic and International, Out of Province, College or University Transfer, and Mature Students) must apply to the YSDN Program through either York University or Sheridan Institute, but not both. To apply through York, use the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC), or to apply through Sheridan, use the Ontario College Application Website (OCAS).
Internal York applicants need not apply through OUAC.You can submit your Program Change Request between January 1 and March 1.
Stage Two
If you are applying to York follow the directions below:
- Once you have submitted an application through OUAC, all applicants to the YSDN program at York will be invited by e-mail to complete an online Applicant Profile and Questionnaire. Upon receipt of the e-mail, go to the link provided, complete and submit the forms online.
- Once you have submitted the forms you will be asked to pay an evaluation fee of $50 in Canadian funds by credit card (VISA, MasterCard, AMEX).
- An Applicant Profile and Questionnaire can only be filled in online.
- Once the payment of your evaluation fee has been approved online, you will automatically be redirected to an online portfolio interview booking system. This system allows you to book your portfolio interview with the program. Please be sure to provide a current e-mail address.
- Note: The deadline for application through York is February 1, 2012.

If you are applying to Sheridan follow the directions below:
- Once you have submitted an application to OCAS, all applicants to the YSDN program at Sheridan will be mailed a letter with an Access Sheridan account (along with your username and password). An applicant Checklist will also be included with this. You will then be mailed instructions on how to log onto Access Sheridan and download the Applicant Profile and Questionnaire for the Bachelor of Design program.
- Once you have downloaded the Applicant Profile and Questionnaire, fill out the forms and mail to
the address below with a $50 evaluation fee in Canadian funds. We will only accept a CERTIFIED
CHEQUE or MONEY ORDER made payable to Sheridan Institute. Personal cheques will not be accepted.
They will be returned to you, delaying the application process.
- Once we receive your completed Applicant Profile and Questionnaire along with the $50 evaluation fee, you will be emailed to notify you of your portfolio interview date. You will not be able to book your interview until both items are received. Please be sure to provide your Sheridan e-mail address on page 3 of the application form. Portfolio Interviews will begin in February 2012.
- Applicants living more than 300 km away from Toronto have the option of mailing in a portfolio and/or making the work accessible in digital form - either as a CD/DVD or via an established website that the applicant has created (please forward the URL). In either case, a telephone or Skype interview may be arranged in place of the on-site interview. You will be contacted by email to book a telephone interview.

The Applicant Profile and Questionnaire plus the evaluation fee must be received by February 15, 2012.
Final Selection
Offers of admission to the York/Sheridan Program in Design are made to the top 120 applicants based on their total score in the following two areas:
- Portfolio interview 0 - 100 points
- Academic average 0 - 100 points
Internal York Transfer Students
Current York University students wanting to transfer to the YSDN Program should contact the department re application by email to ysdn@yorku.ca
International Students
The YSDN Program is committed to the teaching of International Students, and we receive and welcome applications from around the world.
Follow instructions on the York or Sheridan Admission website to apply as an International
Student.
International applicants will have the option of mailing in a portfolio and/or making the work accessible in digital form - either as a CD/DVD or via an established website that the applicant has created (please forward the URL).
