Lyle Fraiman
York University B.A. York University, CanadaLyle is a Registered Graphic Designer (R.G.D.) in the province of Ontario with over 36 years experience as a designer, advertising specialist and corporate communications consultant. For the past three decades, Lyle has been the Creative Director of Fraiman Design Inc, www.fraimandesign.com a leading visual communication firm specializing in the implementation of web, print and branding initiatives. Working extensively in the private and public sectors, Lyle has developed creative strategies for a wide range of blue chip clients in both Canada and the USA.
In addition to his current position as an Associate Professor, Bachelor of Design program at York University, Lyle\'s academic credentials also include teaching at the Academy of Design, Centennial and George Brown College.
He is the recipient of numerous design awards and was actively involved in many design related activities and associations such as the Art Directors Club of New York and Toronto. He has also contributed to industry periodicals and journals and judged for the Canadian Packaging Association awards.
Valerie Fullard
York UniversityVal Fullard is a professional graphic designer and typographer with over 30 years experience in corporate communications, advertising and package design. Her first commerical typeface, created in 1992, was the hugely successful Mambo, distributed by FontShop International. It was to be their top-selling font for that year. Val\'s goal is to pass on some of her abiding love of typography to the next generation of designers.
Aviva Furman
Professor, York University BFA Haifa University, Haifa, IsraelAviva Furman is a professional graphic designer with over 20 years experience as a design practitioner with numerous design awards to her name. Over the past 12 years she has worked with fellow graphic designer Neville Smith R.G.D., designing and producing several editions of the book: Canada a Portrait, a flagship publication published by Statistics Canada. Other work includes promotional material for The National Aviation Museum (Ottawa), The National Museum of Science and Technology (Ottawa), and Public Works. With a background in Fine Arts and Graphic Design, Aviva developed a passion for typography and colour. As a teacher she brings that passion and experience to the new generation of designers.
Maria Gabriele, R.G.D.
York UniversityB.F.A. YoMaria Gabriele is a graphic designer with over 15 years of professional practice. Her client base includes both the private and public sectors with projects spanning financial services, arts and culture, food industry, technology and public health agencies. Her design work has won numerous national and international awards, most recently the Applied Arts Annual Awards. As a teacher, she brings her field expertise to design and visual language theory.
Wendy Grey, R.G.D.
York UniversityWendy Gray is an accredited graphic designer with over 16 years of professional experience during seven of which she has also taught at the college and university levels. Drawing upon extensive experience in corporate communications, advertising and promotions, her recent work consists largely of comprehensive branding programs, including strategy and implementation. Her clients include corporations, professional associations and many major not-for-profit associations. Her work has earned her several design awards including Applied Arts and Marketing Magazines. She maintains a particular interest in the creative process as it applies in both academic and professional spheres.
Gary Leroux
York UniversityGary Leroux is a professional designer who has been working in the graphic design business for over 30 years. He is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design. His areas of interest are all levels of typography, print oriented design, book covers, colour theory, paper products and corporate communications. His professional work has been shown on the national news in Canada. He has been invited to lecture at different institutions in Canada. He has won many awards.
Albert Ng, F.R.G.D.
York University Ryerson Polytechnic University, CanadaAlbert is responsible for the establishment of professional accreditation for RGD, Canada - "The transformation of an occupation into a profession". He is the Founding President of the Association of RGD, a self-regulatory professional body for graphic designers in the province of Ontario, created by an Act of the Ontario Legislature, which received Royal Assent on April 25, 1996. Albert is the youngest Canadian elected vice-president of the International Council of Graphic Design Associations. He is an advisor to the three levels of government, and has given unwavering support to the York University / Sheridan Institute Honours Bachelor of Design Degree Program, by lobbying the profession and the government for this joint venture. The RGD scholarship (formerly GDC Ontario) award program for graphic design students, which Albert initiated more than ten years ago, has grown to 12 separate awards in 2004. Albert is known as the "Father of Canadian Graphic Design Accreditation".
Catherine Ishino
York UniversityCatherine Jo Ishino is an Emmy/Peabody-winning video designer and art director. She worked in the TV news business at CNN, ABC News, NBC News and PBS. After 14 years in NYC, she left the position of Art Director at The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour to return to academia. She was recruited to the Master of Fine Arts program at MSU as that program's ?rst ?Distinguished Fellow.?
Upon graduation, Ishino taught at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the Department of Art and Design, where she developed and was the Head of Motion Graphics. She also set up UMD?s experimental Visualization and Digital Imaging Lab. She was appointed by the Chancellor to start up her Interdisciplinary Initiative and managed the creation of this program across University disciplines. Ishino became a fully tenured Associate Professor in 2004. She currently teaches design as a Course Director and Tutorial Leader at York University.

Todd Barsanti
York UniversityAn award-winning and published designer, Todd is a graduate of the Graphic Design program at Sheridan College, has a Master's Degree in Environmental Studies, and has been teaching in YSDN since 2002. Todd was the first part-time faculty representative, elected by his peers, to sit on the department's Curriculum Committee in 2009. He teaches courses at every level in the program in both practicum- and studies-based courses. As a professional designer, he has worked for several of the more prominent design studios in the Toronto area ? including Ove Design, Reactor Art + Design, Spencer Francey Peters, and Hard Drive Design ? and has been operating his own studio, Elemeno Inc., since 1998.
Recognizing a need for more understanding of environmental and sustainability issues within the design industry, Todd undertook a Master in Environmental Studies degree at York University with a concentration on Sustainable Design Education and also received a diploma in Environmental & Sustainability Education. His current focus is on collaborative and trans-disciplinary pedagogies as they relate to design education and has had articles published in the United States by The Living Principles (www.livingprinciples.org) and ReNourish (www.re-nourish.com).
