The Design Colloquium Seminar Series

FW07/08
Organized by Master Program in Design (MDes), Department of Design, York University

Overview

The Design Colloquium is a course offered in the Master of Design (MDes) program through the Department of Design at York University. The course provides not only formal presentation opportunities and training in an academic format for students enrolled in our MDes program, but also offers guest seminars at which well-established and significant designers and theorists are invited to address and inspire our students. The Design Colloquium seminar series aims to stimulate discussion among students, and we also welcome undergraduate students and alumni to take part in the series.

The MDes program is a two-year, practice-based curriculum that investigates the cultural, social, cognitive, and technological dimensions of communication design, information design, interaction design, motion graphics and design studies, within the parameters of Visual Communication. It prepares graduates for careers as professional designers, design theorists/researchers, and educators, by educating students in design practice, theory, methodology, research and management strategies. Students from diverse backgrounds, including sociology, urban studies, graphic design, and industrial design, are enrolled in the program, which just graduated its first class in May of 2007.
