DGrad

DGrad07 | The First Canadian National Conference on Graduate Education in Design

Theme: Challenges and opportunities in a changing world
Date: June 13-14, 2007
Venue: Accolade West Building, York University, Toronto, Canada
Organizer: Department of Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, York University
In conjunction with: The DX National Design Conference, Design Exchange

Overview

  • Whether it is graphic design, industrial design, interior design, fashion design, architecture design, environmental design, urban design, engineering design, or disciplines in new media, design is a constant element in today’s society.  While graduate-level design education has recently been developing rapidly in Canada, there is a lack of opportunity for Canadian design educators and design graduate students to get together. The First Canadian National Conference on Graduate Education in Design (DGrad2007) will provide that opportunity. The objectives for the Conference are: 1) to provide a forum for educators and graduate students devoted to the study of design and allow them to share their experience and research in a supportive and encouraging environment; 2) to promote design graduate studies and design education in Canada; 3) to explore the future directions of graduate education in design and research development in Canada.

Who should attend DGrad07?

  • If you are studying at design related program (both graduate or undergraudate level), or teaching in design related program, you should attend DGrad07.

Topics

  • Owing to the nature of graduate design programs, the conference welcomes both research text-based papers and creative practice-based presentations from design educators and graduate students.  Both research text-based papers and creative practice-based presentations that explore relevant theoretical, critical, philosophical, epistemological, methodological, creative and pragmatic frameworks from a variety of design disciplines are invited. Possible topics and areas may include but are not limited to the following:
    < Curriculum development and methodologies
< Learning context, environment and case studies
< Design methodologies in creative practice-based projects
< Multi-inter and meta-disciplinary in design at the graduate level
    < Social and human sciences
    < Design leadership and management
    < Design and complexity
